I took both the standard tripper bus and the tripper elite bus and I would use both again. Preferably, for the extra $20, tripper elite is a huge step-up over the standard. The elite had a lot of room, with a row of singles on one side and doubles on the other. The elite bus itself was okay looking, however a little dirty as shown in the pictures attached. Neither bus had working wifi, which was more disappointing for the elite. Although we did get bottled water and were treated better in general than in the standard bus. All of that being said, itโs not a bad service but could be improved.

Good price. Good attendants. The bus could be more comfortable but I think this is the standard American bus for intercity trips.

I had taken Tripper Bus years ago but more recently switched to other transportation options to get to NYC. However, after my recent trip on a Tripper Elite bus I'd highly consider using this company again. What I liked: the biggest plus, which accounts for the higher price of your ticket for this bus, is that one row of seats as two across the aisle, and the other row is of single seats. Since I was traveling by myself, it was a complete joy to sit alone and not have to fumble with a random seatmate's power cord or backpack on the floor. The seats are pretty plush and all have power outlets. They also give you a bottle of water when you get on board. The bus was also quite clean. The pickup stop in Arlington is on a quiet street tucked into Roslyn. It's Metro accessible or very easy to get dropped at via car. Dropping off is at Penn Station in midtown Manhattan. Fysa: we stopped in Maryland to switch bus drivers. I don't know if this is standard. We also made a 10-minute stop at the Delaware Welcome Center. I appreciated this, because it was nice to use the bathroom and grab a snack. But if you're in a super hurry to get to New York, it's something to consider for adding in time. My dislikes: the Wi-Fi wasn't working, even after the bus driver tried to reset it. That was a bummer since Wi-Fi is advertised as a perk of the bus. But it's not enough to keep me personally from booking again.

Best way to travel to NY. Clean. Left right on time. Free wifi much slower/less reliable than 3G. Seats very uncomfortable - seat pitches forward and dumps you out. I might try a competitor next time for that reason alone. Driver personable.

I have used Tripper Bus for a few years now and have not had any major mishaps. The drivers are always courteous, friendly, and communicative (and sometimes funny!). The buses are very clean and have trash bags throughout the aisles. The prices are competitive with Bolt and Megabus, and since they have stops in Bethesda and Arlington, you don't have to deal with the chaos of Union Station (or Port Authority in NYC). As others have stated, the Bethesda pick-up/drop off does add ~45 min to getting to your destination, but the drive through Georgetown is quite scenic and calming coming from NYC. Customer service is great-- I've had to change tickets a few times with no hassle. And because I've used Tripper so much, I've been able to redeem a few free rides. Wifi is a drag (as on most methods of transportation), but you can get a few emails in.

So.... I knew my experience on the Tripper bus a few weeks ago was good but I did not realize how good until I took a Megabus this weekend. The Tripper bus left on time, did not stop and smoothly and comfortably arrived in Arlington in 4 hours and 10 minutes. Megabus left almost 45 min late, stopped, and overall made me frustrated. Tripper is definitely better than Megabus if going from NY to DC.

Our round trip experience from Arlington to NYC was positive. The bus left and arrived time both ways. The WiFi on the way to NYC worked well but was spotty on the return trip. The bus was very clean; seats were not tremendously comfortable. They were just okay. I would definitely take the Tripper bus again.

As a frequent NYC to DMV traveler, I circulate between Tripper, Mega, and Greyhound. I like that Tripper gives a free ride for every 6. That is a great perk. The outlets and WiFi has become standard across carriers but the bottles of water are a nice touch to set them apart. I travel later in the evening when leaving Arlington so the limited hours restrict me to taking Tripper only on my trips out of NYC. In any event, I enjoy my rides each time!

My wife and I did a round trip to NY in a single day on December 28th to catch a play. We rode the 6:30am and 5:30pm bus. The buses were clean and the people running the operation where professional and courteous. The ride was reasonably comfortable. It was bouncy at times, particularly around NY, but that's the rode not the bus or drivers fault. I'm 6'1 and have a 36" waist and just fit the seat - any larger in either direction and the less comfortable you will be, and the person next to you will be if you are, I'm guessing, larger then 40". The price was fantastic for a round trip or one way, which is why this is such a good option. The downside is timing, with almost zero traffic the trip from Arlington VA to NY was approx. 4:30 and 4:45 hours long, with the return trip delayed almost an hour, not included in the above travel time, so the 4 hour travel time noted appears highly unlikely, or impossible given the stop in Bethesda and a drive swap on the way to NY. This would be a five star if the time on the website/app was more accurate. I wasn't particularly upset about the travel time or the late bus, the ground crew told us that there was a delay pretty early, and we received an e-mail, which was nice. You're on a bus, so you are completely at the mercy of the traffic, and you should know that going into this venture, and plan accordingly, which we had. Though we almost missed the 11:00 garage closing in Arlington, which cost $10 to park the entire day, since we didn't miss the closing time. Next time we will probably Uber to the pickup location, so I won't have to worry about parking. Other thoughts -- fairly obvious, if you want a pick of seats get to the pick up early. We arrived about 6:10am and 4:45pm and weren't first, but near enough that we had our pick. If your catching the bus in Bethesda, I would arrive earlier since you are the second stop. Also, I didn't bother with the wifi, but the power for charging your phone/laptop was great, and the water was a nice touch - though I didn't drink any because I wanted to avoid having to go to the rest room. Not that I know of any issues with either buses bathrooms. I just want to avoid the experience as a matter of course. I'm a happy camper, and will very likely use Tripper again, so I do hope that's how this review reads. Thanks Tripper and our drivers and support staff for doing such a good job.

I've only taken 1 Tripper bus, but it won't be my last. The buses arrived VERY early before departure time, so I didn't have to stand out in the cold waiting! I was able to get onto the bus about 30min early. Complementary water bottle, outlets, wifi, all worked. Driver was VERY friendly and accommodating, and arrival time was exactly what was expected. I felt safe on the drive and I would definitely take again.

This was my first trip taking tripper. I usually take vamoose because of the convenient pick up location in Arlington. I was excited to see another bus with a (cheaper) arlington pick up location. I had a very positive experience. We were able to wait on the bus at the Arlington location prior to departure. The pick up location is right next to an office building on a side street away from traffic. We received a free mini bottle of water when we boarded the bus. The ride was smooth. I appreciated that the drivers made and effort to avoid traffic and take alternate routes. The only negatives were that the bus on the ride up was SO hot, and the stop in Bethesda made the trip longer than anticipated. I wish tripper provided an option that skipped Bethesda. The drop off location in NYC has to be the best out there. Although the streets of NYC are always busy, tripper has a semi secluded area behind the post office near penn station. If you don't mind a bit longer trip, take tripper for the price and capable drivers.

We loved tripper bus. Our driver , Jerome, was extremely professional and had a great sense of humor. The ride was from NY to Bethesda MD. He made the bus trip relaxing and fun. The bus left exactly on time! During the trip when it appeared the bus was going to run into a traffic jam he announced an alternative route which would save us an hour. I definitely will take tripper again.

Never having taken this company's bus (or any other) to and from New York City from Arlington VA, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised on several fronts: the price for the trips was very reasonable, the buses were clean, the seats comfortable, and the drivers courteous. The buses left on time and arrived at their destinations early. The trips were not crowded. For the most part, the rides were quiet -- although one woman had to be reminded twice that loud conversation on a cell phone is not permitted. The interior temperatures were kept very comfortable. We'll use the Tripper bus the next time we go to New York City, for sure.

Tripperbus is much more convenient if you're being picked up OUTSIDE of DC, either Arlington or Bethesda. I've found them to be much more buttoned up and courteous than other bus services. They're typically on time, not as crowded, slightly cheaper and the complimentary bottle of water upon arrival is a very nice touch.

It was my first Tripper bus trip, although I had recommended it to my husband and father previously and they both loved it. I'm glad that I double checked the pick-up address on the website since it was no longer in front of the Bethesda movie theater. The wifi worked very well and the bus was on time for both pick-up and arrival in NY. I was very happy that the person collecting our tickets was very firm in explaining the boarding process so that everyone stayed in line!! After living abroad for the past 18 years you really appreciate a queue! The bus was comfortable, I would say a mid-comfort ride -- not luxurious, but not like a public bus. The drop off location is great in NYC. On the trip back I was able to take the earlier bus at the last minute. There was space on the bus, so it was not a big deal for the company and they let me change my departure. I will absolutely take this bus again. It is so affordable and so safe and convenient. I highly recommend it!!

My husband and I used Tripper Bus to travel from DC (Arlington) to NYC over the long holiday weekend (Friday morning to Monday night travel). We had done a bit of research on the large selection of buses making this trip, and decided on Tripper Bus. After our trip, we wanted to share some of our thoughts and how the trip compared to our expectations! 1. We arrived early to the bus stop. We had heard rumors that the bus will fill up fast, and that we would want to beat the crowds, so that we could get seats together. We were about 45 minutes early for both trips, and had no problems sitting together! But, both buses did fill up, which makes me wonder how often someone could travel without an advanced reservation! (note: we boarded in Arlington...no matter how early you arrived for the Bethesda pickup, two people sitting together might be difficult) ...maybe in the future, seats could be reserved, like airline tickets! 2. The bus leaving Arlington departed ON TIME! Yay! The bus leaving NYC was about 5-10 minutes late departing...maybe blamed on the fact that another bus company took the Tripper Bus parking spot. 3. Both buses were CLEAN, this was very important to me, and I was pleasantly surprised by the conditions! My husband used the on board bathroom, I didn't...also clean! But, that leads me to my next thought... 4. The bus is supposed to be a non-stop from DC to NYC and NYC to DC...but, during both trips, we made a 15 minute stop at a turnpike rest area. I suppose this is good if you want to use a different bathroom, or grab a snack! But, not so great if you want to make an on-time arrival. The stops were limited to a fairly strict 15 minutes, but we were about 15 minutes late arriving in NYC and we were an HOUR late arriving back in Arlington...and very happy to have caught one of the last metro trains! (might consider that we left NYC about 10 minutes late, and there was some traffic getting into the Lincoln tunnel too). 5. The bus drivers were very friendly, and took a lot of care to cater to the passengers! 6. We were offered a bottle of water on the trip to NYC, but not on the trip back to DC. 7. There is Wi-Fi on the bus, but the signal (both trips) was not what you are probably expecting! It will likely not load webpages with heavy content, and it will definitely NOT run Hulu or Netflix type programs, my Kindle and our cell phones could not use the Wi-Fi!!! ...no problems using our normal cell service though! Think that about covers it! We are likely to use Tripper Bus again, but might try another service that has only one DC stop (because Arlington was the first stop on the way out, and the last stop on the way in, adding time to both ends of our trip)!

I use this service regularly and am very pleased. Regular drivers and ticket attendants provide good customer service and when space is available on the bus for an earlier departure they try to expedite your travels and find you a seat. Bus broke down twice over the course of my travels and both times Tripper refunded my tickets. During one of the breakdowns another Tripper bus stopped and provided mechanical support and took on passengers who could not wait the 30 minutes for the replacement bus which did in fact arrive in a timely manner.

This is pretty much the only bus I take now. They're clean, efficient and the water is always a nice touch. I always grab it in Rosslyn so it can take time to get to Bethesda-that's just traffic. Also the last few times I took the bus, it smelled like cigarettes strongly-can be a bit nauseating. Also, I do agree with comments I've seen about staying on time-I've had to reschedule meetings, etc due to arriving an hour or more behind schedule. Overall, I highly recommend Tripper-I use it very frequently-sometimes on a weekly basis so I'm satisfied in general.

Tripper makes you feel like you are valued from the very start, even while waiting on line. Being greeted kindly, and with a smile, upon arrival starts the process in the right way. Moving the line to the other side of the street where there was some shade might not seem like much, but that speaks volumes to me. Passenger comfort is important. The drivers are cordial and professional, and helpful with comfort on board and with luggage going to and from. The prices are very favorable and customer service was responsive and respectful when I had one booking issue. This is a company that cares about its clients, and I intend to continue to be a loyal one.

One of the best bus service's I've ever rode in the DMV Area! This bus is very safe and clean. Not to mention, the free WIFI it offers as well. They also give you a free bottled water and the bus leaves right on time. The bus driver's ensures the most safety of its passengers. However, the bus driver's tend to be a little rude. I would definitely recommend riding this bus if you're in the DMV area. The best part about it is, it's located right outside the Rosslyn Metro station so public transportation is very accessible and you don't have to go all the way into DC.

Really good option to get to NYC from DC metro area efficiently. I picked them among the various bus companies mainly because of their convenient pick up locations. Most companies go into DC proper, but Tripper is great if you live in NoVa or close-in Maryland. One thing I didn't realize is that the same bus stops in both Arlington AND Bethesda. It's not really a problem, but I think they should have made that clearer on the website. So if you get on in Arlington (first stop), don't get too comfy in your own row, as you may have a friend join you at the other stop. Other than that small detail, the trip was seamless - and the drop off point in NYC @ Penn Station is very convenient, albeit a little crazy. But that's NYC for you! On time, clean nice bus. Good value.

My overall Tripper bus experience has not being bad at all, I think they are very reliable and the cost for the tickets are cheap. You save a lot of money on gas and paying for toll. I love how their deal buy 5 tickets and the 6 ticket for free! I'm very happy I get to see my boyfriend who lives in New York very often, we both use tripper bus! And what I also like about it, is that one of stops is in Arlington so I don't have to travel all the way to DC to catch the bus. Mostly all buses leave right on time which is great for me because I get to spend more time with my boyfriend! Thank you tripper bus!

I have taken both the Megabus and the Tripper to NYC and can honestly and confidently say that the Tripper is the better of the two. Yes, you will still get delays since the bus is at the mercy of the traffic of two major cities. If you want to be delay-free take the train or fly. But if you want to/must take the bus, Tripper is a great option. For one thing, they are very diligent about leaving on time, which is way more than can be said for the Megabus. If traffic is bad you will be delayed getting to your destination, so make sure to add an extra hour beyond the ETA is you have time-sensitive plans. The drivers do a pretty good job at keeping you updated and last time we arrived in Rosslyn 15 minutes early. They are also nicer than most Megabus drivers I've had. The buses are fine. They are standard and have plugs, lights and the occasional wifi signal. I've also never really had a problem with other customers on the bus and the drivers like to remind people to be respectful of others and keep their voices down. There is also a bathroom on the bus, which I thankfully have never needed to use. The stops are really convenient for those who live or work in the suburbs just outside of DC. I usually take the bus from Bethesda and into Rosslyn and both stops are located right by the Metro. The bus stop in NYC is conveniently located right behind Madison Square Garden. There are workers located by each stop who check you in beforehand and make boarding efficient so the bus can leave on time. Just note they are very committed to leaving on time so be there as early as you can. On my last trip a girl got off the bus in Bethesda to get food for her and her friend. The check-in man got upset with the friend and told her that it was not a rest stop, only a stop for boarding (which is true), and you are not supposed to get off the bus. He kept telling her they were holding up the bus and that we were going to have to leave without her friend if she did not get back soon, which she did. The pricing is decent and does not go up as time goes on like other buses. One way weekend tickets are $27 each way, even if you buy them the day of your trip. If you sign up as a member of the website (which is free) you get a free ticket after 6 trips (one trip=DC to NYC, so DC to NYC to DC would count for two trips). With the frequency of my travel to NYC this is a great benefit. I've only taken this bus and Megabus, but if you are choosing between the two, go with Tripper. Note: The drivers really want to get you there as close to the ETA as possible and almost never make rest stops. Make sure you either eat beforehand or bring some food for the bus if you think you'll be hungry. You do get a free bottle of water for the trip.

My husband and I have pretty much tried all the bus services between DC and NYC. This is definitely our favorite! Getting on at Rosslyn or Bethesda is just much more peaceful than catching a bus in the hectic DC/Union Station. The staff is friendly and on time. The busses are clean, offer wifi & charging stations and serve a decent crowd. And you get free bottles of water. Honestly sometimes I don't really want people to find out about this company, but I do want them to get good business. So here's a good review for Tripper.

There are two bus companies competing to take you between Rosslyn and NYC; Tripper and Vamoose. This time I decided to take Tripper. The bus was clean and the drivers were excellent. But, while many Vamoose runs bypass Bethesda, ALL Tripper buses stop there. The trip from Rosslyn to Bethesda adds a good 30-45 minutes off-peak and even more during rush hour. Then, after leaving Bethesda, we made an unadvertised stop at the Catonsville Park and Ride lot to switch drivers, wasting another 10-15 minutes. Smooth sailing after that, but it seems Tripper needs to change drivers during the pickup stop in Bethesda, rather than in Catonsville. It took exactly 1.5 hours just to get from Rosslyn to Baltimore and, with the traffic issues enroute, well over 5 hours to get to NYC. So while I don't fault Tripper for the traffic, having all buses stop in Bethesda and doing the driver switch in Catonsville will certainly be factored into deciding my next trip.

I've taken Tripper Bus twice so far and both times had pretty good experiences. While the prices of the Tripper Bus might be slightly higher than other buses that leave in DC, it's one of the few that leaves straight from Rosslyn. Since I live close to the bus stop, the small premium is worth it for me. The first time I went, I left on a Saturday morning and we got to NYC in about 4 hours. The driver was friendly and the ride was pretty smooth. The bathroom appeared clean (although I honestly try to avoid public bathrooms unless absolutely necessary so it's not like I actually used it). I just read a book, so I can't speak to the internet connection. I saw a lot of people on their laptops, so it must have been working! The return trip was closer to 5 hours that Sunday, but that's sort of expected leaving in the afternoon. The second time I took the bus, it was maybe 20 minutes late but that wasn't a huge deal. This time I left on a Friday afternoon, so traffic going up was definitely worse than a Saturday morning. It probably took 6.5 hours to get into the city that evening. I assume that's normal, although I think there was a sports event going on too apparently... someone said that after the fact. Anyways, that really wasn't something anyone could control, so that aside the ride was pretty normal. I would definitely recommend Tripper Bus if you live in Arlington and don't want to trek into the city to another bus stop.

My last trip to Arlington I decided to roll on up to New York City. I don't like asking my relatives for a ride that far, so I tried Tripper Bus this year and here is what I found: there were no stale French fries on the ground or gum on the seats. Their fleet of buses must be new. I am a little leery of dirt and germs, so this was a big plus. I did have one large bag with me which the driver offered to put underneath and even seemed happy about it. The ride was fine. I liked seeing the area so I looked out the window more than others who were glued to their devices. I'm definitely up for another ride. Wish they had routes near my hometown.

My ride from Arlington to NYC was pretty smooth. I like the pick up and drop off location of Tripper and it was pretty much the only reason I was willing to pay more for Tripper versus some of the other competitors. The internet on the bus was slow but the outlets and the free water bottle were convenient.

Had a great first experience with this bus service. Happy that it leaves out of rosslyn because I don't like going into D C. Had working bathroom, present but weak WiFi signal (not that it really mattered to me because I slept most of the way) and was on time. The driver on the way to NY did make one stop but it didn't make a huge time difference and the driver on the return trip was wonderful. Went on a week day so the bus was actually not packed going there or back. Will definitely book for future trips. Only con is that seats are somewhat uncomfortable.

I take the Tripper Bus about once every other month up to New York City and back, and I have always found it to be consistent and reliable. The bus in Arlington leaves from very near the metro station, and the bus is almost always there early, so we can get on and not have to wait outside. The seats in every bus I've taken have been comfortable (more comfortable than Greyhound/Peter Pan, for sure), but geared toward people who aren't particularly tall or wide. I sometimes get water, but not always, and the outlets and wifi are about as consistent (but it is one of the least expensive bus options, so I'm not expecting perfect reliability). I do appreciate that the bus drivers announce at the beginning of the ride whether the wifi and outlets work or not. Coming back from NY is always easy - the same man is by the buses to check you in. Coming back to Arlington, be sure to get to the bus stop early - the bus fills up fast! On Sunday nights, there are always a few taxis waiting by the Rosslyn metro when we get back, and it is very easy to get on the metro or in a cab to go the rest of the way home. I'd definitely recommend Tripper Bus over going into Union Station to get the bus - it's faster, the buses are less crowded, and the buses leave on time.

Tripperbus is the most reliable bus I have used. I use tripper twice a month from nyc to Bethesda, MD. In nyc, it's conveniently located right outside penn station and in bethesda it's walking distance to the bethesda metro as well as a few places like starbucks and panera. It's always on time. If you buy 6 tickets you get 1 free. They have water bottles before boarding the bus. The outlets have always worked so I can charge my phone/laptop during the ride.โบ Issues: Internet goes in & out sometimes. Twice the bus has had issues (flat tire & mechanical difficulty) which caused my 4 hour trip to turn into a 6-8 hour trip ๐

One of the best buses for travelling between NY & Virginia. In fact, I'll go as far to say it's the best in the business right now.

I booked a same day trip for my family for 3 sets, and somehow the system put one of the set in a different departure time, when I found out a week later I try to change it and the system canceled it, I have to pay higher price for it. And then I call the customer service, a woman answer the phone refused to help me book it back with the same price! Update, After I email Tripperbus, a staff there name Fay reply me right away and offer me solution. I changed my review from 1 Star to 4 just for their email customer service.

Service is generally good. Waiting locations could use more signage, esp. guidance for lining up in separation from other bus line in NY.

The good: the elite bus has more leg room, fewer passengers that's good. Other than that there is not much difference from the regular bus. ... Bus driver did a good job, but maybe a little too 'New York".

I took the Elite bus up on a Thursday morning and I'm currently on one of their normal buses back to DC. The Normal bus is perfectly serviceable but I'll spring for the upgrade next time, assuming the Elite schedule fits. They seem to only run one a day during the week.

The elite bus was well run, the driver was excellent. Generally comfortable however this elite bus is in real need of replacement of its shock absorbers, the ride was quite bouncy. WiFi was poor.

We had a smooth ride up to New York on Friday & smooth one back on Monday. It was a different bus on Monday though & seats weren't quite as comfortable. Also the driver didn't drop us off at the same location as we left from. He dropped us off on Wisconsin Ave & all the passengers rides were on/near Willow Lane.

It's always been easy to get the bus from Bethesda. and the guy who organizes the line is great. But the bus stop in NYC is harder to identify, the organizer is less likely to be wearing Tripper identification, and less likely to make sure that the line gets on the bus in order. wifi is usually good. At times it has been spotty. Overall I would recommend Tripper.

Tripper is reliable and inexpensive. It is a convenient way of getting from Bethesda to NYC. Other passengers generally very respectful of fellow travelers. I ride this bus frequently. Several drawbacks. Usually no rest stops and the bathrooms are not very clean; not always announced by driver. The bus stops to change drivers going up to NYC and this adds time to the ride. Wifi is not powerful enough to supply service to the entire bus even when not full.

Excellent experience from Bethesda to NYC and back. Nothing to complain. There's no sign for the stop in Bethesda but you'll find there based on the description on their website. Be on time!

The service was excellent & the driver from Arlington to NY who picked us up on Friday morning at 9.30 am was hilarious & very helpful. The driver made our journey with my daughter a fantastic memorable memory. We thank you Tripper Bus for selecting such great staff.

Always on time, one of the fastest routes from DMV-area to NY. Clean bus. Great drivers. A little bit on the pricier end... but I'll take it if it means a faster commute to the Big Apple!

Yes. Reservations are always required regardless of the method of payment.
Check out our pick-up and drop-off locations.
Generally, we do not restrict passengers using a cell phone on the bus; however, we recommend all phone conversations be short in duration and spoken in a low tone in consideration of the other passengers. Passengers sitting in the front 4 rows are not permitted to use their cell phones for the entire trip, as the conversation would be a distraction for the driver.
Tripper Bus provides daily bus transportation between New York City and the Washington, DC suburbs of Arlington, VA and Bethesda, MD.
