Great pen kit, I love the bolt action, but I wanted to gift somebody a pen who doesn't do a lot of hunting or have any reason for one of the rifle ones. This was a perfect alternative while still including the fun bolt action mechanism.

On the two blanks I bought, the Burled wood was only on one end and not evenly balance throughout the blank. Essentially you can only turn half of it. I used the better of the two. I’m return the other one; it didn’t have much burled wood.

I needed a solution for a Jet 1221 to hold pieces while hollowing. I stumbled upon on this and it appeared to be sturdy. It does take a little tinkering to get it set, but I'm happy with it. The hold down was difficult to get on and off the lathe regularly so I bought a Jet specific banjo disc, a 3/8 bolt + washer, and a knob. I JB welded the bolt to the disc and added the washer/knob on top. Now it slides onto the end of the lathe easy and all the way down without clashing into the under support webs and a few twists of the knob its is secured. I have had no issue with the wheels either.

Simple to turn and, although the first assembly was a little tricky, the next was easy. I do not recommend the forster bit sold with th bundle. ½x2½ minimum blank is a must or your egg will be a football. Turning tips, be careful not to press the tailstock bushing too hard or risk breaking the narrow shoulder on your blank, and the widest part of the egg is a lot closer to the middle (lengthwise) than I expected.

It's not a lightweight case, on the inside you get two displays, each one holds thirty bigger than average pens, the clear cover is held in place during transport with magnetic straps, the displays are removal from the carry case and there's plenty of dense foam to cover and protect everything. This case is definitely worth the money, just make sure to hit the gym before carrying it around, it's very well made and lockable as well. Looks are very pleasing as well

I've made several of these and they sell really quickly, specially when using wood and resin blanks. Can be tricky keeping the holes in line so the top stays straight when grinding pepper. I use a short piece of dowel inside and hot glue the top and bottom together to turn it all at once.
